What We Have Done

March 12 Approx 2115 -2330 Explorers assisted the St. Louis FD with a 2 alarm fire in an abandoned 2 story house.
March 15 800 -1100 Explorers rode the St. Louis FD float in the St. Patrick's Day Parade
March 23 250 -???? Explorers assisted the St. Louis FD with a 2 alarm fire in a building at Grand and Humphery.
April 18-20 All Day The Explorer Post arranged and ran the 1997 Fire School. Fire School was held at Beaumont Scout Camp. Explorers attended classes is HAZ-MAT, Drafting Operations, Dive Rescue, Rappelling, Auto Extrication, and Wild Land SAR. Explorer Posts from Pacific, Eureka, Hazelwood, and French Village also attended.
April 26 900-1400 Class and Training: Members of Pumper 5 and H&L 2 educated Explorers truck operations. Explorers climbed H&L 2's 110 ft. aerial ladder, and went over hydrant operations.
May 5 1700-2000 Class and MTG: Explorers learned about SOPs for a 1st alarm, Incident Command System, and protective clothing.
May 10 900-1200 Basic First Aid Class at HQ: Explorers learned about different types of medical emergencies and how to address them.
May 24 900-1400 Trip to St. Louis Int'l Airport: Explorers visited the Airport Main House and Remote House and practiced with portable extinguishers.
May 30 1700-2000 Hose Class: Explorers learned the location and sizes of hoses on STLFD trucks and learned different hose rolls.
June 6 1700-2000 Rope Class: Explorers learned different knots, and proper care of rope.
June 28 900-1500 SCBA and SAR: Explorers practiced SAR in full turnout gear in the STLFD training tower. Explorers blacked out their face pieces and practiced left and right handed searches looking for trapped people (a dummy).
July 2 1700-1900 Business MTG concerning Fall Fun Rally and Camping at S-F Scout Ranch.
July 4-6 All Day Fair St. Louis: Explorers Assisted Engine Co. 7 with operating of the STLFD Safe House. The Safe House is a mock house used to educate children about fire safety. Explorers operated the smoke machine, talked to children and assisted children climbing down the ladder.
July 12 1700-2100 Test over FF1
July 15 1700-2100 Business MTG and training for Competition: Explorers paid monthly dues and turned in any pending paperwork. Explorers then trained for the rose rolling and line exchange/advancing events for the upcoming competition.
July 30 1700-2030 MTG and refresher class on ropes and knots.
Aug. 2-3 1200-1700 Strassen Fest: Explorers assisted Engine Co. 7 with operating of the Safe House
Aug. 5 1700-2000 Ladders: Explorers learned about how to carry and raise ground ladders at the training tower at FD Headquarters.
Aug. 14 1700-2030 Training for Competition: Explorers practiced the hose replace event.
Aug. 15- 17 All Day Camping: Explorers had a change to hang-out together and camp. Explorers swam, fished, and did other outdoor activities.
Aug. 21 1700-1900 Training for the Competition
Aug. 26 1600-1830 Training for Competition: Explorer practiced the firefighter combat challenge. The firefighter combat challenge is an obstacle course style event, similar to the Phoenix test. Explorers must climb three flights of stairs, touching each one and using the handrail. At the top the Explorer must hoist two donut rolls of 1 3/4 together, up the three stories. The Explorer must then descend the three flights of stairs touching each stair and using the handrail. The Explorer must then pick-up and carry a pike pole through a row of cones then advance a 1 3/4 hose line and hit a target. The Explorer must then run to the roof simulator and hit the counter 25 times, and then walk to the finish line.
Aug. 30 900-1200 MTG: Explorers took the FF Explorer 1 Test
Sept. 5 1500-1900 Training for the Competition
Sept 8 1900-2130 First Nighter: Sean Price and Crystal Henderson joined the Post. Explorers found out that everyone passed the FF Explorer 1 test.
Sept 12 1700-2000 Hose Training: Explorers reviewed text concerning types of hose, pressures, and SOPs for laying hose.
Sept. 13 Evening Advisor Hale raised H&L 6's aerial so that Explorers could practice the triple layer load. Explorers then climbed the 105 ft. aerial.
Sept. 14 900-1600 Annual St. Louis Fire Engine Rally: Explorers rode in the parade in different trucks, and participated in the competition. Explorers, with the help of Captain Richardson, placed 3rd in the hose lay event and 2nd in the bucket brigade event. Firefighters from surrounding counties were the competitors.
Sept. 25 2330-2430 Chief Explorer Brice and Firefighter Explorer Saunders assisted the STLFD with a 1 alarm fire at Itaska and Grand.
Sept. 26-28 All Day Fall Fun Rally: Explorers had time to meet and talk with other Explorers from all over the St. Louis Area.
Oct. 5 1700-2000 MTG: Explorers turned in their old rubber coats for new, used Nomex coats. Ideas for fundraising were discussed for a trip to Baltimore MD.
Oct. 6 2230-2340 Chief Explorer Brice and Firefighter Explorer Saunders assisted the STLFD with a 1 alarm fire on Jefferson on the city's south side.
Oct. 14 2200- 0000 Explorers Brice, Shahriary, Weiss, and Saunders assisted the STLFD with a 1st alarm at 120 Krauss. Explorers sat on a 2 1/2 inch line, hitting hotspots.
Oct. 15 1600-2000 Training for Competition: Explorers practiced the hose roll , hose drag, and dress-up events.
Oct. 18 130- 245 Explorers Brice, Saunders, Weiss, and Shahriary assisted the STLFD with a 1st alarm at 5200 Cote Brilliante
Oct. 19 1600-2000 Training for Competition: Explorers Practiced the Line Exchange Event.
Oct. 21 1600-2030 Training for Competition: Explorers did drills to improve physical fitness and teamwork skills
Oct. 23 1600-2100 Training for Competition: Explorers reviewed all of the events.
Oct. 25 800-1700 Annual Fire Explorers Competition: The Explorer post won 1st place overall in the competition. Explorer Miller won the Hose Drag and Firefighter Combat Challenge. Explorers Saunders, Indelicato, and Shahriary won the Hydrant Extension Event. Explorers Brice, Miller, and Vaughn won the Waterball Event. Explorers Weiss, Brice, Saunders, and Miller won the Hose Roll Event.
Oct. 28 1700-1900 MTG: Explorers presented the 1st place trophy to Deputy Fire Chief Schaper. The trophy will now be displayed at Fire Department Headquarters.
Nov 1 900-1500 Explorers staffed Engine House 28 during the "Scouting for Food" drive. Explorers collected food from Boy Scouts, then boxed and loaded the canned foods to be picked up by the National Guard.
Nov 6 1700-1900 Business MTG: Explorers discussed fundraising and picked-up candy to sell.
Nov 10 1900-0000 Explorers Assisted the St. Louis Fire Department with a 4 alarm fire in an abandoned church at 21st and St. Louis. Explorers loaded hose and lowered and bedded Pumper 5's aerial.
Nov 11 1000-1600 Explorers Weiss, Saunders, and Shahriary assisted members of H&L 6, Eng. 2, Rescue Squad 2, and Vince Wright (Salvation Army Coordinator of Disaster Services- Midland Division) with assembling a 50 foot Christmas tree for the Salvation Army, in downtown St. Louis.
Nov 15 1000-1200 FF1: Explorers familiarized themselves with Eng. House 2 and H&L 6.
FF2:. SCBA Class: Explorers went over checking of SCBA units and "donning" of SCBA
Nov 15 1700-0000 Advisor Clarke, and Explorers Weiss, Saunders, and Shahriary met with Robert Cotton to begin training on the Salvation Army Canteen. Explorers learned proper care and maintenance of the Canteen and all equipment on board.
Nov 24 1830-1200 Explorers Weiss and Shahriary, and Advisor Clarke assisted the St. Louis Fire Department with a 4 alarm fire in an abandoned 3 story building at Martin Luther King and Hodiamont.
Nov 25 Explorers Brice, Weiss, and Saunders with Advisor Clarke assisted the STLFD with a 1 alarm fire in an abounded 3 story house at McNair an Crittenden.
Nov 28 1400-1900 Pump Operations Class: Explorers took reserve 11 behind the fire house and put it in "Pump Mode" and thew water from all of the lines and deck gun.
Nov 28 Explorers Weiss, Saunders, Shahriary, with Advisor Clarke assisted the STLFD with a 1 alarm fire in an abandoned 3 story, 4 family brick building. Explorers backed Pumper 2 on a 2 1/2 inch line.
Dec 3 1630- 1900 MTG and Award Dinner: Explorers received recognition for winning the Fire Explorers Competition.
Dec 20 800-100 Forcible Entry Class: Explorers practiced pulling ceiling, opening walls along with following the SOPs for a first in company, simulating a real fire scene without the fire.
Dec 21 1600-1800 Christmas Party: Explorers Exchanged gifts and ATE!
Jan 2 1130-1400 Explorers Brice, Weiss, Shahriary, and Saunders assisted the STLFD with a 2 alarm fire at the Red Cross Headquarters. Explorers ran air bottles into the lobby and kept civilians away from the building.

Jan 24 1300-1600 Training at the Airport: Explorers Went over water supply SOPs at structure fires, making sprinkler systems, and standpipe connections. Explorers also were privileged to enter inside Lambert Airport's Air Traffic Control Tower.
Jan 24 2220-2310 Explorers Saunders and Shahriary assisted the STLFD with a 1st alarm Detony and Thurman.
Jan 26 1700-1900 Training: Explorers reviewed water supply SOPs.

Explorers Weiss, Saunders, and Shahriary went to the Dewey school and talked to students about fire safety. The students ranged from preschool ages to fifth grade.

Business Meeting
Apr 4 900-1600 Explorers assisted the STLFD with various presentations involving, fire behavior, fire safety, and other fire department activities. The all day event was held at the St. Louis Science Center.
Apr 6 1900-2100 Cluster MTG: Advisors of various Fire Posts in the area met to discuss upcoming events and post functions.

Apr 8 1900- 2000 First Nighter: New recruits came to HQ to learn more about the post.

May 2 2000-2200 Explorers Weiss, Indelicato, Saunders, and Shahriary assisted the STLFD with a 4th alarm fire at 9th and Angelica.

May 30 900-1100 Training at the Airport: Explorers rode in the Airport Firetrucks and went inside a UPS cargo plane to learn about tactics in aircraft firefighting.

June 23 1530-1800 Salvation Army Disaster Services Volunteer Picnic: Explorers along with Box 8 club members and other Volunteers had lunch on the Salvation Army. Explorers met with other volunteers and office officials of the Salvation Army

June 29 1900-2100 Explorer Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs from City and Eureka met.
Sept 11-13 Fire School: Explorers attend the annual Explorers Fire School. Explorers attended classes such as Rappelling, Fire Streams, Cave Rescue, SCUBA Diving and Wildland SAR.
Sept 20 1000-1500 Annual Fire Engine Rally: Explorers Competed against other Fire Departments in the Waterball and Hose lay events.
Sept 25-27 All Weekend Explorers attended Fall Fun Rally. Explorers provided First Aid for the event.

Oct 12 1100- 1300 Explorers Weiss and Shahriary assisted at an 8 alarm high rise fire at the Council Tower Apartments.
Nov 11 900- 1630 Tree of Lights: Explorers Assisted in raising the Tree of Lights Christmas tree in downtown St. Louis
Nov 12 1700- 2100 Canteen Service: Explorers served hot chocolate to Exploring personnel and Hixson Middle School.

Nov 21 900- 1600 Scouting for Food: Explorers manned engine houses and boxed up collected food.
Nov 23 1300- 1500 Explorer Weiss and Shahriary assisted at a 3rd alarm fire in a mansion at Lindell and Kingshighway.
Nov 25 1800- 2300 Guns -n- Hoses Boxing Match: Explorers attended the annual boxing match.
Nov 26 900- 1200 Christmas in St. Louis: Explorers served hot chocolate at the Thanksgiving Day parade.
