| What is Learning for Life?Youth today have more needs than ever before. We live in a changing world that has seen the disintegration of many families, rampant drug abuse, extreme violence, and moral decay. Young people these days are thrown into a hothouse of competition and social change that tests their decision-making skills. Learning for Life is designed to support schools and other youth-serving organizations in their efforts toward preparing youth to successfully handle the complexities of today's society and to enhance their self-confidence, motivation, and self-worth. Learning for Life also helps youth develop social and life skills, assists in character development, and helps them formulate positive personal values. It prepares youth to make ethical decisions that will help them achieve their full potential. Learning for Life enhances teacher capacity and increases youth learning! Nationwide, school demand for character education programs has greatly influenced the dramatic growth of Learning for Life. Learning for Life has become a program for education with more than 20,000 schools and organizations nationwide serving more than 1.4 million youth. Learning for Life makes academic learning fun and relevant to real-life situations. It helps youth reach beyond themselves by placing them in situations that help them to understand and act constructively. As a result, the values and skills learned by participating in Learning for Life not only make youth more confident and capable, but give them an invaluable understanding of how things work in the real world.
