The aviation Exploring program turned out to be instrumental in my career and life. It’s impact can be felt today in my development as an Air Force Aviator.  I have been lucky to fly with the US AWACS and NATO AWACS. I have been selected as Navigator of the year twice in my Wing and Ops Group. I became an Instructor, an Evaluator, and even a Functional Check Flight Navigator aboard the E-3 AWACS. And been one of the first to operate our jet from a forward operating base in Afghanistan. Conduct the first test of controlling and flying UAVs from within another airborne aircraft. And even fly at airshows, conduct anti piracy missions and counter drug operations. I am now a Lt Colonel select after serving 14 years in the Air Force. I can honestly say that without the outstanding amount of support, time, and sincere effort that the Sporty’s team gave during aviation explorers, I would not have been able to reach such a place in my career.

I appreciate Sporty’s, helping ignite the fire of aviation and foster its growth in me as I reached for the sky. The way you genuinely opened your business to the Explorers so to foster dreams and inspire the young generation is a gift that you left on me. Thank you and I wish the best for you and the Explorers team at Sporty’s.

Signed,
Jeff R., Former Aviation Explorer

When do Aviation Explorers meet?

Aviation Exploring posts typically meet on a bi-monthly basis during the school year with the specifics being determined by the local Aviation Explorer adult advisors.

The Aviation Career Exploring program is delivered through local participating agencies such as the airports, aircraft manufacturers & government agencies. Programs are flexible enough to fit in with other activities during the year to meet the needs of the host organization and the youth participants.

Most Aviation Explorer posts meet at local Airports. We take visits to Airports, Flight Lines, Manufacturing Plants, Flight Museums and Traffic Control Towers. We provide opportunities to participate in National events and regional training sessions.

How much does it cost?

Annual program participation is $50. Individual programs may request an additional program fee and would be determined by the local Explorer post or club.
